Every project leaves dead weight.
Sweep it out.

Clip Sweeper reads your Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve projects and finds unused media files across timelines. Review them, then mark clips for deletion, transcoding or moving.

Free to try. Scan, preview and stage without paying. Unlock cleanup for $19.99, once.

Sequence usage · new in 2.3

Ignore utility timelines.

Dailies, stringouts and sync maps touch everything you shot, so your loosest footage looks the busiest. Name a rule and that timeline stops counting. Protect rules win.

Sequence Usage: dailies, rough, stringout and sync ignored; export and final always counted

Protect the folders you
always need.

Your SFX library, LUTs and graphics packs read as unused because no timeline points at them today. Lock the folder once and nothing inside it can be staged, moved or deleted. Proxies included.

Four of the five you can walk back.

Restore All

Put it back. Nothing on disk was ever touched.

Reversible

Move to Trash

Send originals to the macOS Trash, fully recoverable.

Reversible

Move to Folder…

Relocate originals elsewhere, directory structure preserved.

Reversible

Transcode & Replace

Re-encode to HEVC in place, verified before the original is swapped.

Keeps the footage

Delete Permanently

Bypasses the Trash. Gone for good, behind a type-to-confirm.

Not reversible

Nothing leaves the disk
until you say so.

1

Stage it first

Files land in a bin inside the app. Scrub them, read the counts, change your mind.

Your drive still looks the way it did

2

Cross-project check

Checked against every project you imported and every linked comp. A conflict stops you and names it.

Catches the clip you forgot you reused

3

You pick the ending

Trash, archive, transcode in place, or delete for good behind a typed confirmation. Every run is logged.

Four endings, three of them reversible

Reads linked .aep files and keeps footage used only inside a comp.

Questions.

What does it cost?

Scanning, previewing and staging are free with no time limit. Unlocking the cleanup actions (move, archive, transcode, delete) is a one-time $19.99 purchase. It is a perpetual licence: clean the drive, keep the software forever. No subscription, no renewal.

Will it delete files without asking?

Never. Files go to a virtual recycle bin first. You review everything before any disk operation. Permanent deletion requires typing "DELETE" to confirm.

Does Clip Sweeper upload my files?

No. Everything runs locally on your Mac. No internet connection required.

What Premiere Pro versions are supported?

Premiere Pro CC 2017 and later. The .prproj format has been stable across all Creative Cloud releases.

Does it work with DaVinci Resolve?

Yes, with one extra step. Resolve doesn't record timeline usage in its project file, so instead you build a Smart Bin where Usage = 0 and export that bin's metadata to a CSV (File ▸ Export Metadata From ▸ Selected Media Pool Clips). Clip Sweeper imports the CSV, finds the real files on disk, and manages them in the same safe workflow. Those clips are labelled "DaVinci CSV" rather than "Unused," since Resolve flagged them and not Clip Sweeper, so the call stays yours. There's a full walkthrough on the blog.

I import sound effects and transitions to every project. How do I avoid deleting those?

Mark the folder as protected and nothing inside it is ever offered for deletion, proxies included. You can also sort by file size, where small assets like sound effects and transitions separate naturally from large camera media.

Does it work with network drives?

Yes. SMB, NFS, AFP, and WebDAV mounts are all supported. Trash failures on network volumes are handled automatically.

Can it handle MXF, R3D, and other pro formats?

Yes. R3D, ARRIRAW, BRAW, DNG, and MXF are all recognized and managed as complete camera packages.

Is it available on Mac?

Yes, as a signed, Apple-notarized direct download or from the Mac App Store. Both need macOS 14 or later. Windows is not available yet.

What counts as a timeline using a clip?

Any sequence in any project you imported, plus any linked After Effects comp. From version 2.3 you can exclude sequences by name, so dailies and stringouts stop counting as proof.

Does it change my project files?

No. Clip Sweeper reads .prproj files and never writes to them. It only acts on the media files on disk, and only when you tell it to.

What does Transcode & Replace actually do?

Re-encodes the file to HEVC in place and verifies the result before the original is swapped out. You keep the clip and get the space back. It is the one cleanup action that is not a deletion.

Can I undo a cleanup?

Restore All and Move to Trash are reversible. Move to Folder is reversible if you know where it went, and the audit log records it. Delete Permanently is not, which is why it sits behind a typed confirmation.
